PHOTOGRAPHY

Meet the Artist

I have had an abiding love of nature throughout most of my life.  It is a soulful experience; one pursued in solitude but filled with joy and peace. My photographs are a reflection of this very personal communication. I first became interested in photography in 1975 and have since spent most of my adult life and career taking images, whether with sound waves or a camera. After medical school and a radiology residency/fellowship, I specialized in ultrasound and used sound waves to image and better understand the inner workings of the body. Photography offered many parallels and provided an opportunity to explore the more intimate, spiritual side of nature.  I have been influenced and mentored by East and West coast photographers, in particular, Charles Cramer, well-known for his photographs of Yosemite National Park and who introduced me to the concept of "The Intimate Landscape". It was an easy transition from intimate landscapes to macrophotography.

About Sherry

I have worked in both black and white and color, each image directing me as to how best to develop. I have explored the more intimate side of nature photographing flowers, waterfalls and ice and later, sea and landscapes.

My pursuit of ice lead me to the Arctic and Antarctic regions; I initially photographed icebergs on a grand scale only to realize their many inner facets; their reflections on the water, mysterious depths and abstract inner soul.

Waterfalls create a unique, intimate space of their own, flowing eternally, at times powerful and at other times peaceful and serene.  By slowing their motion, time stands still creating a brief moment of silence and  tranquility.

Flowers have their own inner secrets and mystery that are best explored through the eyes of a macro lens.

I believe all the galleries shown are united by the many similarities in lines, shapes and forms that occur throughout nature.

Although today’s world is filled with turmoil, there is also a spiritual, quiet side that must not be forgotten; this is what I seek to show through my photographs and share with others.
